Emotional freedom technique (EFT)

It’s also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure.

Similar to acupuncture, EFT focuses on stimulating the meridian points, to restore balance to your body’s energy. The restoring of energy balance can relieve symptoms caused by a negative experience or emotion.

Whilst Acupuncture uses needles to apply pressure to these energy points, EFT uses fingertip tapping and is delivered in a specific sequence along the meridian lines of the body. Similar to acupuncture it is used to help alleviate the body of sickness or disease.

Who can benefit from EFT?

EFT is a very effective way of clearing out the charge around negative feelings, and when unwanted feelings are gone, the limiting beliefs that you hold are released. This allows new, more positive beliefs about yourself to emerge and become your new frame of reference for the world and your place in it.

There are many outcome-based studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of EFT to:

  • Overcome depression, anxiety and stress
  • Overcome emotions related to trauma
  • Reducing fears and phobias
  • Reduce fears related to child birth or surgery
  • Increase sense of self-worth
  • Enhance communication skills
  • Improve athletic performance
  • Improve test scores
  • Reduce PTSD

In fact in the USA EFT is used as the protocol to reduce PTSD amongst veterans, with close to 50% of those receiving EFT moving out of the PTSD classification, it shows remarkable results in comparison with other forms or treatment.

In another 2016 report comparing the effectiveness of using EFT tapping over standard care options for anxiety symptoms. The study concluded there was a significant decrease in anxiety scores using EFT compared to participants receiving other care.

Our own experiences with EFT

I have personally had amazing success with EFT as have many of the clients I have worked with. Clients often say they feel different and even look different after a session. EFT is truly powerful for helping people overcome these feelings and emotions that keep them stuck and stop them from moving forward in their life. EFT is fantastic for reducing the heightened sense of emotions that cloud our judgement and keep us in endless cycles. Once our charge is removed we think more clearly, make better decisions and are able to rationalise far more effectively.

My first experience with EFT was incredible and I never imagined that a lifelong phobia could be lifted in 20 minutes! I Suffered a crippling fear of spiders (think commando rolling from a moving car kind of fear) and It had never occurred to me that this was something I had the ability to move beyond.

One morning during my training my mentor Joanne Antoun asked me to come to the front of the room and take a seat. She proceeded to ask me questions about my fear of spiders, as I looked up from my seat I could see a huntsman spider was on the ceiling, right above where I was sitting. Normally I would have run for the hills, and have been in the foetal position at the other end of the house, however as Joanne progressed with the EFT technique my feelings changed, my charge was released and instead of fear for the spider I was able to appreciate its value and purpose in the world. My fear now gone; I have a new sense of spider freedom.
